Stories in Action

From climate justice to LGBTQ+ heritage, our participatory projects use creativity to inspire real-world impact – and build movements one story at a time.

Project Spotlight: Footprints of Love

An LGBTQ+ Living Archive of Newham

Footprints of Love is a groundbreaking community storytelling project capturing the rich, resilient, and too-often-erased LGBTQ+ history of Newham. Rooted in joy, memory, and resistance, this living archive invites queer residents – past and present – to share their stories through film, photography, performance, and sound.
Led by Cameye Arts and made possible through major support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this project co-creates a powerful intergenerational portrait of queer life in East London – from dancefloors to doorsteps, protests to private moments.

💬 What We’re Doing:

  • 🎤 Oral histories & filmed testimonies from LGBTQ+ elders and youth

  • 🗺️ Interactive Queer Walking Tours across Newham

  • 🎞️ Documentary film & portraits celebrating overlooked local icons

  • 🌐 A digital archive co-designed with the community

  • 💃🏾 Live events & exhibitions showcasing joy, protest, and pride

✊ Why It Matters:

Because queer history lives in people, not just museums.
Because East London’s LGBTQ+ communities have shaped – and survived – so much.
Because visibility is healing, and storytelling is resistance.
